Douro - Taylor

Taylor's Port Wine was founded in 1692 and is one of the oldest port houses. Taylor's wines are classified as 'first pick' (a term used for the best Bordeaux wines)

Taylor has always derived his status from his high-quality port wine, particularly the vintages. The essence of these vintage mixtures has been formed since 1908 by the grapes of the beautifully situated, amphitheater-shaped Quinta de Vargellas in the Douro Superior. Taylor also owns Quinta de Terra Feita in the Pinhão valley, a remarkable vineyard consisting of a large hill with a flat top and a few smaller hills. All wines from Terra Feita, like those from Vargellas, are made in lagares. Single-quintavintages are also produced in some years

The press always talks about Taylor's vintages, although the more accessible LBV is also worth mentioning. The LBV of Taylor is very modern; it is bottled after six years in the barrel and has been stabilized and filtered, a vintage wine, which does not have to be decanted

In short, both their vintage wines and LBV ports must be part of your wine collection and you must have it tasted
