Alentejo - Herdade do Peso
Herdade do Peso which translates to "Estate of the Weight", was named decades ago by local farmers that came to the area to weigh their wheat. Traditionally known for wheat and olive plantations, the municipality of Vidigueira is now recognized for its exceptional wines.
As a winery it only exists since 1996 and this under the group 'SoGrape'.
SoGrape is a wine wholesaler primarily known for owning and exporting 'Sandeman'. The entire Herdade do Peso estate consists of approximately 457 hectares of land, the largest part of which is planted with red grapes like Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro, Periquita, Moreto & Touriga Nacional. Only about 8 hectares are reserved for planting white grapes such as Antão Vaz and Arinto
Owner and winemaker Luís Cabral de Almeida gained his first experience in the winemaking team of the winery Finca Flichman in Barrancas, Mendoza in Argentina
With their 12 different soils planted with 7 different grape varieties, they are able to make several premium wines that stand out from most other Alentejo wines. Herdade do Peso wines are known for their aromatic strength, their elegance - resulting from the cold Atlantic air reaching the vineyards through a hole in the mountains - and their long aging potential.
