This single cask 4 D+E madeira wine has a gold color with greenish highlights.  Fresh pine aromas, ripe citrus, green tobacco leaf, cloves, a bit of smoke and quite nutty. Well-structured and mineral, with a constant dryness and a magnificent acidity. Spiced and lingering finishing.

Food-pairing 
Slightly chilled as an aperitif. They can be served with starters, with smoked fish such as salmon, caviar, olives, dried ham, duck and tasty dry fruits and nuts such as hazelnuts, almonds or nuts.
   
Grapes: Verdelho
Also known as Gouveio in the rest of Portugal. Is the most widely planted white variety. The style has a light sweetness and is off-dry / medium dry. Planted at altitudes of 400-600, especially in the North, and ripens late. The grape is the main ingredient for Rainwater.
  
This Verdelho 2000 Colheita Single Cask 4 d+e was produced exclusively with grapes from the same vineyard as the previous (Verdelho 1996). It is a vine owned by the farmer Agostinho Andrade Junior and his family with whom I have a very special relationship for many years. The fact that the grapes had origin in the north coast of the island, São Vicente, contributed decisively to the explosive acidity of this wine that almost disguises completely the concentration obtained over the last 14 years of aging by the traditional process of Canteiro, in a French old oak cask. In June 2015,  1.116 bottles have been filled, all individually numbered.

Store & Serve
Always keep a Madeira wine upright.
Madeira's acids are so strong that they attack the cork if the bottle is stored horizontally
Serving: 10-12 °C. This wine was filtered and does not require decanting 
 
Madeira is a wine that has matured for several years in an oxidative environment, after which it is bottled in a reductive environment. It is therefore useful to open the bottles a few hours in advance. The bottles can then be stored almost indefinitely, since the air no longer affects Madeira wines. In fact, after months - if there still remains - the wine tastes better than when you open the bottle.
