The extended barrel aging has given this wine a complex fusion of dried fruit and cedar notes. On the palate the wine is smooth and full bodies with plenty nuts and sweet fruit on the palate, fine balance. A tremendous finish which goes on forever. There's no question about the quality on display here.
Colheita's are seen as Tawny's of very high quality. Comes from a single harvest and has spent at least 7 years in French oak barrels of approximately 550 liters. Colheita port wine represents less than 1% of the total annual production of port. Like Vintage, a Colheita port is only released when the best conditions are met and after approval of the IDVP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto)
The 2000 Colheita was the first to be declared in the 21st century and will be remembered for the immense concentration of its wines and for the small quantities produced. The wines are already showing tremendous promise, with intense berry fruit aromas and full-bodied structure, which at this early stage is an excellent sign.
