A Colheita Port is a Tawny Port from a single harvest and has spent a minimum of 7 years in French oak barrels of about 550 liters. Colheita port wine represents less than 1% of the total annual production of port. Like Vintage, a Colheita port is only released when the best conditions are met and after approval from the IDVP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto).
Beautiful amber colored port wine. Full bodied, sweet and complex on the palate with plenty of brown sugar, hazelnuts, prunes that transition into a bold finish with the sweetness and acidity that complete the experience of well-made port wine with age. A port with many layers and nuances.
Food-pairing
Delicious with slightly sweetened desserts such as crème brûlée, dried fruits and as an aperitif
Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa , Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cao
The vineyard has been placed along the slopes on horizontal levels and recently they have been planted along the lines of the largest slopes, the so-called "Vinha ao Alto" (vertical planted vines).
Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and turned into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This is done in lagares at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is reached. At this point, grape brandy is added to make the final fortified wine. A high quality wine made from a single harvest.
