This Vasques de Carvalho 50 Year Old Tawny Port is an amber colored Tawny with golden and greenish reflections. It has a lot of personality on the nose, with aromas of spice, exotic wood, dried fruit and some coffee. On the palate it is a wine of great concentration and intensity, very complex, but which, as a whole, once again shows enormous personality and elegance. The different sensations seem to overlap, always combined with a remarkable acidity and an endless aftertaste. Sweetness and alcohol are perfectly balanced to bring out the flavors that the aromas had already announced.
Food-Pairing
a perfect
match to sweet pastries, such as apple pie with cinnamon, as well a delicacy with strong cheeses and dark chocolate, or just on his own at the end of a meal
Grapes: Tinta Barocca, Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional
It is a wine composed of wines from different harvests, in which a part of the wine is from 1880, always aged in 550 liter casks.
Winemaker Jaime Costa is in charge of the portfolio. Having worked for 16 years at Burmester, the former Revista de Vinhos Fortified Winemaker of the Year 2005 is plainly thrilled once again to have such fine and rare aged Port wines at his disposal. And his timing is good. The recent spate of headline grabbing, luxury-priced Very Old Tawny Ports means that Tawny Ports are, at last, having their day in the sun
