86/100 - Wine Enthusiast Tasted: Oct 2022
There is an edge of toastiness to this wine from its light wood aging. That balances the young, vibrant black fruits in a fine blend that includes Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional. Drink the wine now. Roger Voss
Vila Santa
Vila Santa is the first brand of this winery and the name comes from the famous story "the miracle of roses" because King Dinis lived in Estremoz and Vila Santa in the Dutch Holy Village means. The legend goes like this:
Queen Isabel, the wife of King Diniz, treated sick people and distributed bread to the poor .. The legend says that despite the fact that the King had a hard character he was also nice. But he did not want the queen to be surrounded by poor and beggars, so he forbade her to visit them any longer. One day he saw her sneak out of the palace, and followed her to ask what she had hidden under her cloak. It was bread to give to the poor, but she replied: "They are roses my Lord!" "Roses in January?" The king replied. The Queen showed her husband what was under her dress and the bread had been turned into beautiful roses. She was declared Saint in 1625.
