This extraordinary Port Wine stands out immediately for its extremely seductive colour, reminiscent of mahogany, with hints of green when stirred, an evident sign of its age. Its aroma is tremendously complex and rich, with numerous nuances of dried fruits - figs and plums -, vinegar, iodine and spices. It has a very fresh, persistent and harmonious finish. This wine originates from vines that date back to an era pre-phylloxera, and as such it contains a selection of typical grape varieties of the Douro region: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional and many other. The palate confirms and reaffirms the remarkable freshness promised by the nose. Even though the wine is extremely rich, unctuous, concentrated and dense, it ends with a perfectly balanced acidity that provides an explosive and never-ending finish, as though the wine refuses to leave. At the very end it provides an irresistible acidity.
Vallado ABF was launched in 2016. This is a limited edition (933 numbered bottles) of a unique wine produced in 1888 and bottled to celebrate the 300 years of Quinta do Vallado. The name ABF is a homage to António Bernardo Ferreira, a forefather of the current owners, who purchased the quinta in 1818.
This magnificent Port Wine was brought to life by a small producer of the Douro, based in the Lower Corgo area neighbouring Quinta do Vallado, who kept it with great care in three 650L barrels, since 1888. Due to evaporation, to which it was subjected to for over a century, the wine was reduced to 700L, still found within its original barrels, where it aged.
This wine originated from vines that pre-date phylloxera, and was produced using the traditional method of foot-treading in lagares. It is an ultra-rare wine, with exceptional qualities, that can still live on for many years.
