Azores Wine Company Verdelho Original is a white wine that offers exuberant aromas of Azorean pineapple and passion fruit on the nose. On the palate it reveals fresh fruits and acidity. This is a fresh, mineral and saline white wine, the original Verdelho-grape.
The name, Verdelho Original, comes from the fact that the Godello, Verdelho and Verdejo varieties have many similarities and are forever being confused for one another by consumers when they are actually three completely different grapes. So the Azores Wine Company winery wanted to explain the origin and characteristics of this wine, the Verdelho original.
Azores Wine Company was started in 2014 by partners Felipe Rocha, Paulo Machado and Antonio Maçanita. The main aim of this project is to make the unique character of these wines, often with a pronounced saltiness, known worldwide. In addition, a lot of attention is also paid to cultivating and especially preserving indigenous grape varieties such as terrantez do pico, arinto dos açores and others.
Food-Pairing
Pair this wine with anything you’d scoop out of the sea: shellfish, oysters, grilled or fried fish, sushi.
Grapes: 100% Verdelho
To make the Azores Wine Company Verdelho Original wine, the grape bunches are selected and manually harvested in 20 kg baskets. When they reach the winery they are pressed whole and then 24 hours later they are transferred to fermentation vats with a capacity of 600 to 1000 litres.
