Pico is an Azores island, 1000 miles (1600km) off the coast of Portugal. The island is famous for the dome-like Ponta do Pico (Mount Pico) stratovolcano which towers over it, rising to 7715ft (2350m) above sea level. Despite its location many hundreds of miles from the mainland, Ponta do Pico is the highest point in Portugal, and is more than twice the height of any other point in the Azores. It is known as the Ilha Preta (Black Island), because of its dark volcanic soils, which are known to produce grapes (and therefore wines) with higher acidity. Extremely rare to see these wines in Belgium

Young and delicate, it should be served chilled with fish, seafood, sushi, poultry and young meat dishes.
Grapes: 100% Verdelho
After careful selection of the grapes, fermentation took place in 80% stainless steel vats and 20% used wooden barrels. Stage on fine lees for 6 months after which the wine was bottled. These vineyards are very special and unique. Located 1,600 km west of the Portuguese mainland on the intersection of the American, African and European tectonic plates, Pico, Terceira and Graciosa islands are of relatively recent volcanic origin.
