This is very serious wine, grown in Pato's own chalky-clay and sandy soils and aged in new Allier large 650-litre barrels, it is clearly meant for ageing but is already drinking well.
Aromatic white wine from grapes planted on sandy ground with Maria Gomes caste and a small percentage of Sercialinho. The typical floral and melon scent of the caste. In the mouth, however, it shows an unusual lime acidity that combines very well, making it completely fresh and persistent. Delicious !
Luís Pato (pato means duck, that's why this bird flies by regularly on the label) is known as a dissident due to his decision in 1999 to no longer market his wines as DOP Bairrada, but as Vinho Regional Beira Atlântico. But his protest was initially directed against the use of French grapes in Bairrada. In that respect, he was a traditionalist.
He defended the use of local grapes such as baga, maria gomes (fernão pires) and bical. As a devoted lover of baga, Once 90% of the vineyards in this region were planted with the baga grape, now this is only 40%.
