The reference for Dão wines ! Together with his daughter, Maria, Alvaro Castro - one of Portugal's most respected wineries - cultivates with great care and respect, beautiful indigenous grape varieties. which makes it possible to make elegant, fine and balanced wines. We have identified, reproduced and vinified some of these native grape varieties. These grape varieties have lost popularity in the region and in the country in recent decades for various reasons, sometimes qualitative, sometimes productive. In order to recognize and interpret their value, this recovery work has led to the release of some wines. Wines that are produced in small quantities, after careful selection in the entire vineyard of Quinta da Pellada, from the healthiest plants of each grape variety.

From this diversity, we highlight three plots that have given rise to Quinta da Pellada "Alto", Quinta da Pellada "Casa" and Quinta da Pellada "49". Without changing anything in the Quinta da Pellada wine, which maintains its normal blend, in which these plots have a strong presence, we have decided to bottle separately a small part of these interpretative studies on the specificity of each of the microterroirs to show the "Alto" (the largest plot).

This plot, as its name suggests (Alto means higher), is located at the highest altitude. Here the grape varieties Jaén, Alvarelhão, Tinta Pinheira, Tinta Carvalha and Bastardo predominate, along with other grape varieties with a limited presence such as Touriga Nacional, Português Azul and Negro Mouro.
