Bairrada - Caves São João
A basement stuffed to the gills with more than a million bottles dating from 1959 to 2000 might sound sexy. But can you wonder which obsessive collector is behind (or lives above) this huge collection of bottles of wine?In fact, these bottles with a thick pack of dust and spider webs have never been moved or, at least, never traded. The cellar belongs to Caves São João, a third generation Bairrada-based wine producers founded in 1920.
This company has always been associated with the avant-garde and tradition. In 1930, the sale of sparkling wines began, and in 1959 sales of silent quality wines began, both nationally and internationally. You can not write the history of wine production in the Bairrada without mentioning Caves São João.
