Black color. Excellent complexity and intensity with balsamic notes such as resin and tobacco, floral notes of rock rose, spices such as pepper and cloves; Slightly minty and stony with hints of wet shale and light cocoa resulting from excellent maturation. In the mouth it is dense, pasty, with vibrant acidity that gives it an excellent balance, firm and robust tannins of great quality and even notes of green tea, floral cistus and basil and an extremely long, elegant and complex finish. Its elegant and complex profile is ideally combined with cheeses.

Luís Sottomayor, oenologist responsible for the wine, explains that this wine began to take shape after work to requalify Sogrape's vineyards in the Douro. “This improvement introduced in the vineyard allowed us to reach the desired level of quality to advance to this superior Ferreira reference that we are now presenting for the first time”, he says, adding that “this process already had in mind the creation of a wine like this Vintage Old Vineyards”. “If the Ferreira Vintages are unique, if they represent the ultimate exaltation of the quality of a Port Wine, this Vinhas Velhas 2016 is the culmination of years of experience, a true milestone in the brand's scale of values. This is a supreme example of Ferreira's quality”, concludes Luís Sottomayor.

Grapes: Touriga Nacional (48%), Touriga Franca (35%), Vinhas Velhas (14%), Sousão (3%)

The selected hand-picked grapes have been vinified in accordance with the traditional Porto Wine method. Controlled fermentation took place in stainless steel vats and it was stopped through the addition of wine alcohol. The resulting wines were very elegant and possess great ageing potential. The wines selected to enter the final blend of the Porto Ferreira Dona Antónia Tawny 10 Years Old remain in the Douro after the harvest and are taken to Villa Nova de Gaia in the following Spring and enter the traditional Porto Wine ageing process, in oak casks. During their ageing period, the wines are subjected to numerous transfers, analyses and tastings, making it possible to monitor their ageing and to intervene through blending, refreshing and corrections whenever tasting so advises. The final blend is obtained using wines aged between 8 and 15 years, so as always to achieve the average age, quality and style of Porto Ferreira Dona Antónia Tawny 10 Years Old.

Store & Serve

This port is bottled ready to drink and will not improve if kept for a long time. Serve between 12 º C - 16 ºC. Decanting is not necessary and after opening this port will keep its taste for about 6 months.

Doña Antonia

José Ferreira was one of the pioneers in the Douro Valley who started on a small scale in 1751. However, it was a woman who made the company as it stands on the map today. Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, a business woman pur sang who has taken the export and spread of the brand to the next level, without making any concessions to the quality of her family product. She lived from 1811 to 1896 and belonged to the fourth generation of the family.

Dona Antonia was already a widow at the age of 33, a tragic fate from which she drew the strength to continue to build her Port house with enormous energy and flair. Much loved by the people and deeply concerned with the plight of the less fortunate, she founded several charities, which are still functioning today. A legendary and striking woman who was quickly given the pet name “Ferreirinha”, “the good lady of Ferreira”. A woman who had a particularly strong influence in the port world. To keep her in mind, Ferreira still markets her “Personal Reserve”, the “Dona Antonia”. A masterful selection of port wines from the Quinta do Seixo.
