Grapes: Moscatel Roxo
Grapes from a single harvest, from vineyards with prime locations on the slopes of the Arrábida Mountains. The first fermentation process is interrupted by the addition of Aguardente (brandy). This was followed by 13 years of aging in 200 liter oak barrels previously used for malt whiskey.
In Setúbal we know the Moscatel de Setúbal or Moscatel Branco (Muscat d'Alexandria), the Moscatel Roxo (the blue variant) and the Moscatel de Douro (smaller and less blue). For the ordinary Moscatel de Setúbal the Moscatel Branco is the most used, for the special types the Moscatel Roxo is used a lot.
