Traditional method of winemaking for port wine. Grapes are partially destemmed, with slight crushing, fermentation follows with maceration of the skins. The fermentation takes place with temperature control and is stopped by adding brandy. The whole process of vinification is controlled by the team of oenology, taking into account the type of grapes, the level of ripening and the desired sweetness. This wine is the result of blending a selection of unique white port wines, aged in oak barrels for an average of 17 years.
Wine Producer: Quinta da Vista AlegreT
he Vallegre port winery is owned by the Cunha Barros family, who have been closely involved in the production of port wine for four generations. The family's operations mainly originate from Quinta Vista Alegre, deep in the Douro Valley near the town of Pinhão. The Quinta's vineyards cover an area of approximately 55 hectares planted with the best grape varieties of the region, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Roriz and Tinto Cão. The vines are very old, some are almost 100 years old.
At Quinta Vista Alegre the old "Lagars" are still used, where the grapes are crushed with bare feet for several hours. Vallegre also owns the old family property Quinta Valle Longo and two other small properties. The family focuses on the production of port wines, but also makes a nice share of table wines of the highest quality every year.
