José de Sousa Winery is one of the most historic and prestigious estates from Alentejo region and features a combination of both tradition and innovation. Keeping alive ancient wine making techniques initiated by the Romans 2000 years ago, with the use of the most recent technology and a full equipped winery, that produces some of the most exceptional wines. Herdade do Monte da Ribeira, where the vineyard is located, is on the road to Monsaraz (birthplace of José de Sousa) and covers an area of 120 hectares, 72 hectares of vineyards. The soil consists of granite. The vines with the red varieties Trincadeira, Aragones and Grand Noir, have been planted over the years, since 1950, by José de Sousa himself.
The modern winery has 44 tanks of stainless steel and all the technology needed to make delicious red wine from Alentejo.
