This modern Rebel is Luis Pato's interpretation of what a "non-standard" wine should be when made of the Baga variety: loaded with red fruit, lighter style, that can even accompany fish, or even be drunk alone, like a delicious winter aperitif. The low alcohol content and the great freshness make the wine very tasty. Full of originality and irreverence of this famous producer, it is a real wild card to accompany several dishes
With this wine, the rebellious Luis Pato wants to show that you can make a very charming wine with soft tannins from the rather tannic Baga grape. He compares normal Baga red wines with Nebbiolo from Piedmont, this one is more like a Pinot Noir from Burgundy, he says. It shows an open bouquet with aromas of blackberries, raspberries and dark chocolate. Full on the palate, with elegance that is typical of the Baga, the fruit aromas can be found again in the long finale.
Luis Pato is certainly a pioneer in the true sense of the word, who has single handedly put Bairrada and its indigenous Baga varietal on the global fine wine map. Known as the Baga rebel, Luis has relished his freedom as a wine making maverick, making and breaking many rules over the past 35 years in the quest to produce the very best wines the Bairrada terroirs can deliver.
