This wine has a concentrated dark violet color. Lush nose and warm tones of red fruit with hints of licorice. In the mouth it is balanced with good acidity and a pronounced fruity and round character. Firm structure with good persistence.
Much of the production is sold and only a small selection - the superior quality grapes - is used for the production of Herdade da Maroteira wines. Herdade da Maroteira is an exclusive winery in Alentejo. The history of the winery dates back to the 19th century. Two brothers, John and Robert Reynolds, stopped in Porto on their journey to Australia. The ship damaged in the storm had to be repaired. While the ship was being repaired, one of the brothers, Robert, fell in love with a Spanish girl. As a result, he decided to stay in Portugal while John traveled to Australia.
After moving to the Alentejo region, Robert acquired 25 plots of land in a few decades. Most of them had their own vineyards and wineries. 1940 he was already the largest landowner and wine producer in the Alentejo region. After Robert's death, his son Raphael first sold Quinta do Carmo and later many other wineries. Of the 25 land positions there are currently only three left
