In the heart of the Douro, in the São João da Pesqueira district, the Quinta de Ventozelo extends over an impressive 600 hectares over the hills. Here you will also find an incredibly rich flora with a clear Mediterranean influence. It was this botanical wealth that inspired the creation of this new Portuguese gin. Lavender, lemon thyme, bela luz thyme and amaranth are just a few examples of plants that grow on the quinta's reed soils.
There is also a secret blend of aromatic plants developed and created by the nursery Cantinho das Aromáticas, a partner in this project. The creation of Ventozelo Premium Dry Gin also depended on the collaboration with the Instituto Abel Salazar in a clear alliance between experiment, research, tradition and innovation.
Ventozelo sets itself apart from the competition through the use of alcohol and aguardente made from grape must, giving the gin flavors and aromas significantly different from neutral grain-based alcohol. The result is a softer alcohol than you would expect from a 45º.
Two tones are immediately noticeable in the nose.
The taste of wine, but also floral notes, fill the nose with a soft, almost sweet bouquet that pushes the juniper back one step.
The taste is the confirmation of the aromas we found on the nose. The scent of lavender, the oily note of Bela Luz thyme and the freshness of lemon thyme cross each other, always supported by a soft alcohol that seems rounded off by the sweetness of honey.
The juniper later turns out to prove the dryness of this gin without losing its wine DNA
