A red wine from the highest range. Intense pomegranate red color, with purple appearance. In the nose a lot of red fruit with notions of roasted wood. Soft and fruity in the mouth, full and with a harmonious aftertaste.

Quinta São João Batist  has a history full of noble and religious events that led to several changes of ownership over the years. Originally called Quinta de Caniços, with the first records dating back to around 1500, the property belonged to the Fróis family until it was left to a Jesuit priest around 1550. With the expulsion of the Jesuits, it passed into the possession of the State and, later, to the noble family of the Counts of Sam Paio.

The farm, initially dedicated to raising horses, mules and cattle for export, was sold in 1898 to the merchant João Batista de Macedo, a wealthy landowner who made his fortune in São Tomé. It was passed down from generation to generation until, in 1988, it was sold to Caves Dom Teodósio, being integrated into the Enoport group in 2005.

Quinta de São João Batista is made up of an architectural complex that includes a colonial-style mansion, whose distinctive architecture is part of a harmonious ensemble with excellent cellars for wine aging and a traditional winemaking cellar. In addition, it has a vast expanse of vineyards. The gardens are a fusion of African and Portuguese flora, with exotic trees that reflect the colonial past.

91/100 - Wine Enthusiast Tasted: Jul 2024
With nine months in wood and dark spice aromas, this wine is full while also balanced. It is still young, rich and solid with a core of tannins to go with the black currant flavors. Drink from 2025.
