Cartuxa Evora Tinto Reserva 2015
This elegant red wine, aged in oak barrels, has a good structure, combining the generous fruity aromas of the grape varieties used to give this wine a stubborn and complex taste of black currants and raspberries, and despite the vanilla hints still fresh and spicy . Fine tannins and a strong long finish with some chocolate in it. A wine that impresses. Excellence, quality and individuality all in a very unique style makes this wine the flagship for what Alentejo has to offer. It is these characteristics that conquer the consumer time after time to become a loyal consumer of the wines of this winery.
These wines refer to the Carthusian monks who, since 1598, lead a solitary life of prayer in the monastery of Santa Maria Scala Coeli, in Evora, in the heart of the Alentejo. The monastery is the only one of the Carthusian order in Portugal and was founded in 1587. It houses eleven monks who stay in seclusion every day except on Sunday because they take a walk through the vineyards in the immediate vicinity. The order numbered about 370 monks and 75 monials in 2006. The mother house of the Carthusian Order is the Grande Chartreuse in the Grenoble area. Furthermore, the order has 24 monasteries spread over three continents.

This is an impressive, rich wine. Dense, structured and powerful, the wine has layers of black fruits that balance the immense tannins. The wine is just mature, generous and ready to drink. Roger Voss
