Vinha do Contador Grande Júri Red 2013 is a terroir wine, produced from organic vineyards in exceptional years, which bears the Grande Júri designation. Surprisingly harmonious and elegant, with a notable persistence, which makes it a distinguished pairing for sublime delicacies. Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro combine perfectly in this luxurious red wine, polished by time and barrels. Ripe wild fruit, balsamic and spicy notes, delicate wild flowers and a softly smoky touch. This is a full-bodied red wine with silky tannins and a very creamy and enveloping mouthfeel, but enlivened by fine acidity that lends it elegance and distinction.

 

Global Wines gathered on Wednesday, June 23, at Paço dos Cunhas, in Santar, an official panel of 17 tasters for the second edition of the Grand Jury Tasting, for the independent classification of the last two harvests of its terroir wine, Vinha do Contador. The jury composed of wine professionals, oenologists, sommeliers, journalists and critics, among other experts, was unanimous in their evaluation, attributing to the 2015 harvest of Vinha do Contador Branco a score of 95.23 and the 2013 harvest of Vinha do Contador Tinto, 96.31 points.

 

With these scores, these vintages of Vinha do Contador, white and red, earn the distinction of Grand Jury, which gives them the status of top of the range wine of an exceptional year. It should also be noted that the 2015 harvest of Vinha do Contador Branco had already received the distinction of “Nobre”, the highest insignia awarded by the Dão Wine Commission.

Crushed with total destemming, long and smooth skin maceration, fermentation at 26ºC. Two months of Cuvaison. Aged 18 months in new french oak barrels with soft toast

Beautifully smooth and mature, the wine has fine secondary flavors, spice and concentration. It is a fine wine that deserved its time before release. The wine's great black fruits, now tamed, still have touches of acidity. Drink now. Roger Voss
