Quinta das Maias was founded in 1893 at the foot of the Serra de Estrela (star mountain). The name comes from the yellow gorse that grow on the slopes of the mountain and are called 'Maya' (May). The 15 hectares of vineyards consist of different plots and are all organic. The high altitude gives a nice acidity to the wine.
Red wines from the Dao must always show a certain juiciness from a combination of height and granite soils. This wine has a deep dark, brilliant red color; the nose is spicy with an intense fruit bouquet reminiscent of forest fruits
blackberries, plums and cassis, with vanilla notes of the oak. On the palate it is very powerful with firm yet soft and elegant tannins and a long finish
Food-Pairing

Store & Serve
Serve at 16 °C. A wine to satisfy the fans of young fruity wines, though it will gain immensely by a bottled ageing of at least
1-2 years. In 5-6 years it will certainly be more complex and enjoyable for people who prefer older wines. It will age well in the next 15 years
