The red wine has a very dark core with an intense and bright violet-purple color on the edge. An intense complex aroma of fresh wild berries and soft roasted hints of wood and cocoa. The taste is full and elegant, fresh berries. The soft tannins and the very long and intense aftertaste make this wine a sensational wine.
In 2002, the Roquette family of Quinta do Crasto (Douro) and the Cazes family of Château Lynch-Bages (Bordeaux) decided to combine their experiences with the aim of producing a great wine that combines the natural and unique characteristics of the Douro with the experience of producing top-Bordeaux wines from the Cazes family for a century. The result is a stunning piece of craftsmanship that no one will miss when serving this wine.
Food pairing
Excellent wine for hearty meals with red grilled or roast meat, Italian dishes and game dishes
Grapes: Touriga Nacional & Touriga Franca, along with other local varieties from old vines
20 months matured in French oak barrels (70% new and 30% of 1 year old)
Vines are planted in Douro’s traditional “Patamares” (terraces) with two rows of vines. The hand-harvested grapes of Xisto – Roquette & Cazes 2018 come from old vines located in the subregions of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. All the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel conic vats. Rack and return is performed during fermentation. This French technique means that the juice is drained from the fermenting vat leaving the cap behind. The fermenting juice is then pumped back over the cap, maximising the skin contact. The result is a concentrated, complex wine that is also elegant and stylish
