A port whose color is reminiscent of rubies. A lively young fortified red wine with a fiery fruitiness, with notes of blackcurrant, strawberries and a light touch of chocolate. Ruby Port has at least five years of barrel aging and is composed of the finest wines from different vintages. Previously this port was called Vintage Character Port, ùthat name has been banned since January 2006
Food pairing
Delicious as an aperitif or with a cheese or chocolate platter. Best lightly chilled.
Grapes: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca
The grapes are harvested, destemmed, crushed and vinified by hand with careful maceration to extract color, tannins and aromas from the skins, complemented by permanent pumping over during fermentation. This process takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 28-30ºC, until the desired Baumé is reached. At this stage, grape brandy, derived from a fortified wine, is added.
