The patriarch of the Ferreira family started commercial activity in the mid-18th century. However, the foundations of the business were the result of the action of their grandchildren, José Bernardo and António Bernardo, in the early 1800s, when they significantly increased the agricultural heritage they inherited. The marriage between his descendants, cousins ​​António Bernardo II and Antónia Adelaide, would consolidate a unique legacy and indelibly mark Ferreira's future. After becoming a widow, Dona Antónia took over the business of the company which she strengthened and increased thanks to her entrepreneurial spirit and charisma. Her intelligence and kindness won the warm admiration of her contemporaries, who affectionately called her "Ferreirinha". The acquisition of Ferreira, in 1987, by Sogrape made it possible to preserve and increase the heritage, historical and cultural heritage of Ferreira.

The grapes of selected varieties of Quinta do Sairrão, located at a high altitude, are selected in the vineyard and again on arrival at the winery. Completely destemmed, gently crushed and then macerated. The alcoholic fermentation in French oak barrels, induced by selected yeasts and controlled between 16ºC and 18ºC, lasts about 20 days. During the period between the alcoholic fermentation and the execution of the final blend, the wine is kept in barrels with "battonage" for a minimum period of 12 months
