Douro - Poças Junior
It all started on August 15, 1918, a few months before the armistice, when Manoel Domingues Poças Junior decided to have his own business. Manoel Poças was 30 years old and had some work experience in the area. |
Over the years Poças got more and more known by his colleagues for the quality of their Tawny.
In the 1960s, they also started with Vintage Port, a segment that has been specialized in the past few decades. "We were always known for our old Tawny and its consistent quality, but at the same time we also built a very distinctive portfolio in the field of LBV and Vintage portwines," explains Jorge Manuel Pintão.
Poças has always been associated with the production of port, but also produces since 1990 DOC Douro wines. Since then, the number of dry wines has gradually expanded, with great success.
The company has three vineyards in the Douro, one in each area: Quinta das Quartas (Fontelas), Quinta de Santa Bárbara (Caêdo) and Quinta de Vale de Cavalos (Numão).
With three of the five best locations in the Douro wine region, Poças has complete control over the quality of their wines.
