Barão (Baron) de Vilar is an old title, which was granted in 1828 to the Kopke and Zeller families. Both families have been very important for their role in the trade in Port wines. In 1996, the current Baron (Fernando van Zeller) decided to register the title for port wine and some other Portuguese top wines, in order to consolidate the family tradition.Fernando van Zeller is also the current owner of this young company.
A special sweet white port from the Barão winery. A port with a sweet and young character, but above all fruity. This port is made from blends of different port wines and matured in oak barrels called “Tonels”, and you can taste it! The port has only had a short contact with the grape skins, which ensures that the port remains clear and light and is very pleasant to drink.
Food-Pairing
An excellent appetizer that needs to be served chilled.
Tasty with soft cheeses, dried fruits, almonds, olives and salads
Grapes: Gouveio, Viosinho and Malvasia Fina
This port contains special grape varieties such as the Gouveio, Viosinho and Malvasia Fina, local Portuguese grape varieties from the Douro region. The Viosinho grape gives a full character, but also freshness, for the white port a fresh flavor enhancer. The Malvasia Fina grapes are widely used to make white wines, which provide the sweet character for which the white port is known. The storage and maturing takes place in Vila Nova da Gaia, in so-called "pipes" (wooden barrels of approximately 520 liters) and in "toneles", large barrels of 1000 liters. The winemaker is, Álvaro van Zeller
