In reality, this white wine is an ode to the former Portuguese princess Catarina of Braganza. Born in 1638 and married to Charles II of England. The well-established and very modern wine house Bacalhôa Vinhos is located in the wine region of Terras do Sado, in the south of Portugal. Besides being very large, they are also extremely innovative. Passion for wine is paramount here. Their motto is: 'Taking Portugal to the World; one wine glass at a time. '
Since 1982 this white Catarina is made. In 2011, this wine received 91/100 points from Wine Enthusiast, and in that year belonged to the 300 best wines under 10 euros.
The wine is made from three different grape varieties: chardonnay, Fernão Pires and Arinto. Each variety is harvested separately. Then the chardonnay is fermented in new French oak barrels and undergoes a wood bearing of approx. 4 ½ months. The two indigenous varieties, on the other hand, undergo fermentation in concrete cuves. Then the blending takes place. This creates a nice full white wine. In the fragrance floral and floral, slightly aromatic with some apple. The rush is soft and round. Again the same aromatic aromas. Good fresh fruitiness of, among other things, white peach. Small bitterness in the aftertaste. Easy and juicy: a wine that everyone likes!
