Vinho Verde - Anselmo Mendes

The work of Anselmo Mendes is recognized in Portugal and abroad, not only for the excellence of the wines he produces, but also for the surprising and consistent way in which he innovates. The fermentation of Alvarinho grapes in wooden barrels or the use of traditional vinification techniques, such as fermentation on grape skins, are just some of the methods that distinguish these wines in the world of white wines.

Anselmo Mendes concentrates on the varieties Alvarinho, Loureiro and Avesso and produces serene white wines that have already won various prices and awards and have earned the trust among the most demanding critics and wine lovers around the world.

Anselmo Mendes was born in Monção and followed the tradition of his family. From generation to generation they devoted their lives to agriculture and wine. The passion for working on land brought him to the 'Instituto Superior de Agronomia' (Institute of Agriculture) in Lisbon, where he graduated in 1987. His interest in wine grew during his studies.

Anselmo is a very versatile winemaker. He advises several Quinta's in the Vinho Verde region in the production of different wines, such as: Casa de Vila Verde, PROVAM, Quintas de Melgaço, Casa de Cello, Quinta do Ameal, Quinta de Lourosa and Touquinheiras. In the Douro, Anselmo Mendes contributes with its talent and know-how to the prestige of the important brands as well as Quinta's. In Dão he is the winemaker of Pedro Paraíso and in Alentejo he is responsible for all Vale de Joana wines as winemaker.
