The Quinta do Vesuvio 2013 Single Quinta Vintage is an intense wine with floral, blackcurrant, and cassis notes and a powerful and attractive aroma arising from the predominance of Touriga Nacional combined with Alicante Bouschet. The presence of Touriga Franca and Sousão also adds complexity and spice.
Food-Pairing
This port is delicious with foie gras, certain cheeses (Gorgonzola, Roquefort), as an aperitif or as dessert wine
Grapes: 5% Sousão, 10% Tinta Amarela, 25% Touriga Franca, 60% Touriga Nacional
The 2013 harvest was exciting for winemakers and pickers at Quinta do Vesuvio. In just ten days a large part of the 133 hectares of vineyards of the estate was picked and the grapes were transported to the traditional stone lagares of the winery. This seemed almost impossible on September 17, just as the harvest began, the long-term weather forecast predicted the arrival of an Atlantic storm that would cross the Marão mountains and reach the Upper Douro. So it became essential to get the best grapes in the winery before the rain arrived, because it was not the first time that the quality of a Douro harvest was significantly reduced as a result of bad weather.
