Douro - Quinta do Poeira
Jorge Moreira is one of the great winemakers of the young wine scene in Portugal. He has a reputation as a driving force behind the legendary wines of Quinta de la Rosa, he catapulted to superior quality in the charts of Portugal |
At his own winery, Poeira, whose labels enjoy a cult status, he produces some of the most amazing white and red wines of Portugal, which gain international recognition and recognition.
7.5 hectares of old vines and 1.5 hectares of young vines are located here on a spectacularly steep sloping terraced slope on the northern slope, which falls almost 600 meters to the valley. Between the lower and upper parcels there is a difference in maturity of about three weeks. This 'field of tension' of temperatures is one of the secrets of the impressive qualities of Poeira. By the way, "Poeira" means "dust" in Portuguese, and it is dusty here in the summer. That is why Jorge quickly planted his vines and quickly switched to organic farming. Wind and water erosion are a major problem in the hot river valley. Nowadays he is biodynamic certified and dust has fallen on his windy northern slope. The annually changing duster and vacuum cleaner hose still adorn its great wines, they have finally become a trademark.
