The origins of Mateus date back to 1942, when Fernando Van Zeller Guedes, the company's founder, had the idea of creating a wine with a strong personality and a unique aroma, bottled in an original and innovative bottle inspired by bats used by soldiers in the First World War. The original combination and the quality of the wine have contributed to the success of Mateus, so that it has become an international brand, present in more than 125 countries, with more than 1 billion bottles sold in 60 years of existence. Its distinctive glass is a symbol, an emblem, recently rejuvenated to best capture the timeless values of this unique and innovative brand.
