   Herdade do Esporão is located in the Reguengos Monsaraz DOC subregion (one of the eight subregions of the Alentejo DOC) and the Alentejo montado ecosystem, famous for its cork forests 

Features about 700 hectares of vineyards and 40 grape varieties, olive trees and other crops, and uses the biological methods and integrated production for their viticulture.

Esporão was purchased in 1973 for the production of Portuguese quality wines. It came into possession of the state after the Anniversary Revolution, not to return to its original owners until 1979.  

Herdade do Esporão produces an average of six million liters of wine a year. 
60% red and 40% white wine is made. The alcohol content is at least 11%, but 14% is normal. 
 
The three most important export markets are the United States, Brazil and Angola

The company has received several awards: twice, in 2001 and 2008, "Enterprise of the Year" (Revista de Vinhos), "Wine Producer of the Year 2012", and titles such as "Best Wine Offer", "Best Portuguese Wine" But also the "sustainability award" and the "green award 2013" are very important to know.
