Taste history with the oldest brand of Port wine. Every wine tells a story. Kopke’s Colheitas, however, tell a unique story. To taste a wine is to taste history and, in the case of this 1966 Colheita, it means remembering a remarkable event such as the launching of The Beatles’ 7th album, Revolver, which is considered by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one of the Definitive 200 Albums. This same year saw the inauguration of the bridge over the Tagus that links Lisbon with Portugal’s south region, Ponte 25 de Abril.

An intense brown colour, with a brick-coloured rim that shows its longevity. On the nose, it shows appealing aromas of dried fruit and marked notes of smoke. Silky and delicate on the palate, with remarkable structure and elegance. The flavours of plum, dried fig and vanilla are well-balanced, giving the wine a unique and distinct style. A singularly persistent finish.

Colheitas are seen as very high-quality Tawnies. Comes from a single harvest and has spent at least 7 years in French oak barrels of about 550 liters. Colheita port wine represents less than 1% of the total annual production of postage. Like Vintage, a Colheita port is only released when the best conditions are met and after approval of the IDVP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto)

Food pairing
Delicious with slightly sweetened desserts such as crème brûlée, dried fruits and as an aperitif . Great with a handful of nuts, caramel pecan pie, milk chocolate or old Dutch cheese

Grapes: 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Barroca
Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved. At this point, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. A wine of high quality, made from one single harvest. A Colheita wine matures in oak barrels for periods of time that can vary, but never less than 7 years. It is then bottled and sold according to the demands of the market.

Store & Serve
Like all tawny port, colheita is best when it is chilled like a white Burgundy (14 ° C) and served in small white wine glasses (Riedel Vinum Riesling for example). Remains enjoyable up to a few months (4 to 6 months) after opening, provided you always close the bottle with the original stopper and store it at a constant temperature of about 12 degrees.

The wine should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. Over time, it is natural that sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of Port wine.

Critics & Awards
97/100 - Decanter World Wine Awards Tasted: Jan 2020
96/100 - Robert Parker The Wine Advocate Tasted: Mar 2016. When to drink: 2016 to 2060
95/100 - Wine Enthusiast Tasted: Jan 2016
this wine from a great Port vintage is dark in color and so concentrated. It is powered by intense acidity from the wood aging as much as any residual fruit. Spice, dried fruits and a perfect balance give this great wine elegance and surprising freshness. Drink now.
