Taste history with the oldest brand of Port wine. Every wine tells a story. Kopke’s Colheitas, however, tell a unique story. To taste a wine is to taste history and, in the case of this 1957 Colheita, it means remembering a remarkable event like the signature of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community (EEC).

Amber color with bright golden hues. Complex and delicate nose, with well-integrated resinous aromas and notes of almonds, honey and candied orange. Sweet, elegant and balanced palate, well-rounded by hints of caramel. Soft and persistent finish.

Colheitas are seen as very high-quality Tawnies. Comes from a single harvest and has spent at least 7 years in French oak barrels of about 550 liters. Colheita port wine represents less than 1% of the total annual production of postage. Like Vintage, a Colheita port is only released when the best conditions are met and after approval of the IDVP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto)

Food pairing
Delicious with slightly sweetened desserts such as crème brûlée, dried fruits and as an aperitif . Great with a handful of nuts, caramel pecan pie, milk chocolate or old Dutch cheese

Grapes: 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Barroca
The production process involves stopping the fermentation of the must by adding grape brandy (benefit or brandy), blending the wines and ageing. Fermentation in wine presses with skin maceration and pumping over at a temperature of 29ºC until the desired Baumé is reached, with brandy being added at this stage. High quality wine from a single harvest. Aged in wood for varying periods of time, never less than 7 years, and then bottled according to market demand.

Store & Serve
Like all tawny port, colheita is best when it is chilled like a white Burgundy (14 ° C) and served in small white wine glasses (Riedel Vinum Riesling for example). Remains enjoyable up to a few months (4 to 6 months) after opening, provided you always close the bottle with the original stopper and store it at a constant temperature of about 12 degrees.

There is a great balance between acidity and impressively fresh fruit considering the age of this venerable Port. Of course there are many flavors from the wood aging, but they are combined with orange marmalade, fig and raisin flavors in a riot of complex flavors that have created a very great wine. It comes from a year that was not generally declared as a vintage.
