Barbeito Três Pipas Bastardo Reserva Velha is a semi-dry Madeira wine that expresses a fantastic aromatic bouquet showing aromas of tropical fruit, notes of tea leaf, aromas of dried fruits, and expresses itself on the end with fabulous acidity.
Very few producers, and especially in Madeira Wine, find in their history such a revolution, as the one that happened to Barbeito. Being a supplier of bulk wines and from one moment to the next becoming a reference in the Madeira Wine region is quite a feat. It all happened in 1991 when Ricardo Freitas joined the family company and decided, together with the Japanese Kinoshita with whom they had joined, to turn Barbeito into one of the most important producers of Madeira Wines.
Food-pairing
It is an excellent aperitif, but is also very tasty with soups, game birds and pâtes
Grapes: Bastardo
Barbeito Três Pipas Bastardo Reserva Velha was produced from Bastardo grapes harvested in São Jorge, on the north coast of the island of Madeira, with three types of lots, one of them produced from a Curtimenta process, which is the prolonged contact of the peels with musts, and two other batches by a Bica Aberta process, musts with direct and smooth pressing. The interruption of fermentation was induced with the addition of brandy. This wine aged through the traditional "Canteiro" process for years in French oak casks.
