Pegos Claros Reserva is a red wine that reveals itself with defined maturity, with a well marked complex aroma of black plums and red currant, with some tobacco and vanilla. It is a complex red wine with good acidity, soft balanced tannins and a very elegant structure.

Wines & Winemakers by Saven consists of a group of highly innovative producers and winemakers, who work with the most advanced technologies without compromising the unique tastes and characteristics of the region. They are active in the regions Vinho Verde, Alvarinho, Douro, Port, Dao, Bairrada, Ribatejo, Palmela and Alentejo. They strive for the best end result and try to let as many special characteristics of the terroir speak into the wine. All the producers involved have extensive experience in their field and have an incredible passion for winemaking, techniques and processes. Most care is given in the first place in the vineyards. This is of course the place where everything starts! SAVEN was established in 1987 to serve as a platform between Portuguese wine companies and the international markets. After 20 years of operation, SAVEN is focused on the distribution of selected wines of recognized quality, providing integrated marketing services (sales, promotion and logistics) for its partners, and offering pricing to accommodate the market needs.

With this collaboration, SAVEN is now at the forefront of promotion and sales of wines, representing producers from the varied and diverse wine regions of Portugal at a very competitive price/quality relation. With this team of producers and winemakers, wines & winemakers BY SAVEN was born. This group is strongly represented every year at the main international fairs and wine tastings, where the respective winemakers are always present to promote their own products.

The philosophy of SAVEN is to allow the client to communicate directly with the producer to obtain quality guaranteed products, with the advantage of being supplied by just one company and avoiding the added costs usually involved. "Portugal continues to be a source of interesting and great value wines with wonderful grape varieties such as the Castelão that makes this rich, seriously structured red. It has an intense strawberry character, ripe, round but with kick on the finish. If this were from Italy or France, you would be paying more." Tom Doorley, The Irish Mail on Sunday, 5th December 2021

Food pairing
Pegos Claros would pair well with smoked and cured meats, red meats, soft and cured cheeses.

Grapes: 100% Castelão (Periquita)
An organic wine from vineyards located about 300 metres above sea level with diverse sun orientation and soil composition. Sandstone soils alternate with marl, ferrous and limestone loamy soils as well as gravel deposits.T his sandy soil has been formed over the centuries by all the sand washed ashore by the Tagus and Sado rivers. The soil is called "Pliocenico de Pegoes".  n connection with this optimum microclimate, these are ideal requirements for the cultivation of this particular type of vine. After a night of crio-maceration, the vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control where the wine is refined for 5 months, after which the wine matures for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.

Pegos Claros is a classic producer with a complete range – white, rosé and three red wines – based on the Castelão variety. We are talking about an old vineyard (a fact that is now proudly highlighted on some of the brand’s labels), with poor sandy soil and no irrigation, located in Santo Isidro de Pegões, Palmela, almost in the Alentejo transition zone. Wine has been produced here since 1920 and it was only in the early 1990s that the name Pegos Claros became established in the hearts of wine lovers. The estate, which is quite extensive and largely wooded (as is usual in the region), has changed owners over the last 30 years. Only recently did the winery begin to meet the conditions desired by winemaker Bernardo Cabral. At the head of HPC is José Miguel Gomes Aires and the oenology, as mentioned, is the responsibility of Bernardo Cabral.

Aged for a year in wood, this is a concentrated and smooth wine. There is a touch of spice that gives the wine complexity, allowing room for the wine's ripe tannins. This fine wine is ready to drink.
