Witte porto
Witte port is eenvoudigweg een port gemaakt van witte druiven in plaats van rode. De afgelopen jaren zijn er verschillende soorten ontstaan; sommige producenten zijn zich gaan richten op lichtgekleurde, frisse, aperitiefachtige wijnen die net zo worden gemaakt als witte wijn, maar waaraan net voor het eind van de gisting alcohol wordt toegevoegd. De meer traditionele soort is voller van kleur en smaak.De witte portwijnen zijn minder ‘verkend’ door de meeste wijnliefhebbers, al is het de categorie die het snelst groeit in termen van nieuwe producten.
U kunt witte portwijnen vinden van één oogst, de colheita's, en witte portwijnen van 10 tot zelfs 40 jaar oud (blends). Witte port bestaat in 3 variëteiten, extra droog, droog en zoet. Deze laatste wordt lágrima genoemd en betekent tranen in het Portugees. Alleen bij de droge portwijn wordt het op het etiket vermeld, omdat men er vanuit gaat dat port zoet is.
Gekoelde witte port is lekker als aperitief en kan ook worden gedronken als verfrissend drankje met ijs en limonade of tonic.
